ADULT ACTING CLASSES

Maleny Players are offering adult acting classes for anyone over 17 years old. The weekly classes run in school term time.  Classes commence on Tuesday 11 July 2023 from 6.00pm – 8.00pm and every Tuesday evening thereafter.

The classes will be taught by Darren Hayden who currently runs the Maleny Youth Theatre and trained at NIDA and Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London (BA Hons Acting).

The training will consist of three blocks:

Acting Skills 1 – Fundamentals

This block of classes focuses on the basics of Acting in a fun, collaborative and supporting environment. The training includes an introduction to stagecraft, script analysis, improvisation, how to choose and play actions and objectives and the importance of embracing the given circumstances of a scene. Actors will explore the use of voice and movement in performance through the workshopping and delivery of monologues and explore various techniques to bring emotional and physical truth to characterization.

Acting Skills 2 – Building a character

This training block further develops and explores the skills and techniques to construct a character as part of a safe, supportive ensemble. Actors will be introduced to further physical and vocal techniques to assist with developing their own process for characterization. Actors will learn to use their imaginations to connect truthfully to the space and will engage in improvisation and scene work where they can practical apply and workshop their skills.

Acting Skills 3 – Performance

Building on from Skills 1 and Skill 2, Actors will further develop their own acting methodology and techniques through workshops, exercises, individual tuition and rehearsals to build a character in preparation for performance. Actors will learn to professionally rehearse, embrace direction and function as part of an ensemble. This module will culminate in a public performance of selected scenes and monologues to a paying audience.
